When it come to skincare, how you apply your products is just as important as which products you’re using. Improper techniques can interfere with the effectiveness of a product, or even cause damage to the skin.
Here are some of the biggest things to keep in mind when performing your daily skincare routine.
1. Change your toner game with cotton pads.
Once we complete our cleansing routine, we move on to toner. This is a crucial step to replenish the skin’s moisture after cleansing, and brings back balance to the skin so it’s at an optimal state to better absorb following products.
But! Even if we cleanse, double cleanse, triple cleanse, there are still going to be impurities remaining on our face, and dead skin cells and makeup reside that we weren’t fully able to remove during the cleansing process. This is where cotton pads come in handy.
While exfoliating everyday isn’t an option when it comes to physical scrubs and chemical actives, using lightly embossed cotton pads – like our compressed cotton pad from the Toner Mate 2 in 1 Cotton Pads – help to sweep away any remaining impurities on the skin for a clean canvas. Simply gently sweep across the face from the center outwards, and in upwards motions.
2. Pay attention to how you layer.
Once we tone, we now move onto the rest of our skincare.
If you follow a common skincare routine, you’ll probably move onto serum, and finish with a moisturizer. This is because skincare works in layers. We go from the thinnest products to the thickest, as each step creates a thin barrier to the skin, making it hard for the goodness of your serums and essences to penetrate deep into the skin if you were to apply a thicker cream, or oil over the skin first.
When noting this rule, we bring to topic our three serums, the Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drop, Freshly Squeezed Vitamin Drop, and Rich Moist Soothing Serum, which all run from low to high viscosity.
To ensure no product goes to waste, use your whole hand when applying, and use large sweeping motions to press your serum into the skin. Finish by wrapping your hands over your face for 5-10 seconds for the natural warmth of your hands to help product absorb better.
3. Upwards and outwards.
We now come to moisturizer.
It’s crucial that we give our whole face an even layer of product. When doing so apply your moisturizer in dots around the face, and spread them evenly using upwards and outwards motions so that you prevent and fight wrinkles.
Due to the rich, moisturizing texture of our Rich Moist Soothing Cream, it works as a great product to work with when using massaging motions.
Start from the nose and work the hands upwards to the outside of the eyes, continuing along the rest of your cheeks, and work from the center of your eyebrows upwards and outwards on your forehead. These motions allow your moisturizer to fully absorb deep into your skin, allowing your skin to stay taught and reduce the chance of wrinkles, making your moisturizer even more effective.
All in all, while skincare is a personal experience that will differ from individual to individual, following the above four rules should help maximize your routine.
